The role of the Sacristan can be found in church history as early as the 3rd century. It was the duty of the Sacristan to maintain the vessels used in holy communion, the pastor's vestments, and any other items that would be used in the confines of the Divine Service.
Over the centuries the Sacristan took on other duties, but the keeping of the churches material treasures and making sure the Pastor has all he needs at the altar has always remained the the priority of the Sacristan.
It is my hope to have a complete working guide to the duties and requirements that any person can read and undertake. Please bear with me as I put this all together. If you have any ideas, questions or concerns, please pull me aside at church and I would love to chat.
